Deep Clean Before the Holidays in Winnipeg: Why November Is the Week to Book

When to book a deep clean before the holidays in Winnipeg, what a normal fall actually does to a house, what's already in the price, and why the first week of December is too late to call.

The first call always sounds the same. It’s early November, someone’s hosting the in-laws or the whole extended family for the first time in a couple of years, and they want to know if we can “just do the whole house” before everyone shows up. Nine times out of ten, what they actually want is a deep clean. They just don’t know to call it that yet.

I like these calls. There’s nothing wrong with the house — it’s just had a normal summer and fall of people living in it, and nobody wants a guest resting a hand on the stove and finding out what’s really on the inside of the oven door.

Why November, not December

Here’s the part nobody thinks about until they’re already behind on it: the week people actually want is the week every other hosting family also wants. The ten days before American Thanksgiving through the first week of December fill up fast, and by the time someone’s thinking about the actual event, half the good slots are already gone.

I’d rather tell you that straight than let you find out on November 20th. If you know you’re hosting this year, call in late October or early November. If you’re flexible on the exact day, you’ll get more choice. If you’re not, book sooner than feels necessary — “sooner than feels necessary” is basically the whole trick to Winnipeg holiday scheduling, for cleaning and for everything else.

What’s actually built up since spring

A house doesn’t need a disaster to need a deep clean. It just needs a normal six or seven months.

  • The oven. Thanksgiving dinner, a few roasts, a couple of things that boiled over and got ignored because nobody wanted to deal with it mid-meal. By November it’s had time to bake on properly.
  • Behind the fridge. Nobody’s pulled it out since it was installed. There’s dust, there’s crumbs, and once in a while there’s a bottle cap that rolled under there in June and has been patiently waiting.
  • Grout and tile. A Winnipeg summer tracks in more than people expect — lawn, garden dirt, sandal season. By fall it’s worked its way into the grout lines in a way a mop never quite lifts back out.
  • Carpets. Same story, plus whatever a dog or a pair of kids has contributed since the snow melted.
  • Walls, light switches, door frames. The stuff at exactly hand height that gets touched a thousand times a day and dusted maybe twice a year.

None of that is a crisis. It’s just the kind of buildup that a weekly or biweekly clean — if you even have one — doesn’t fully reach, because a regular clean is built to maintain, not to reset.

What’s already in the price

This is the part worth knowing before you call anyone, because “deep clean” means wildly different things depending on who you ask. Ours includes the oven inside, the fridge inside and pulled out from the wall, carpets machine-cleaned if the home has them, marks washed off walls and doors, and a steamer worked into the grout, floor edges and bathroom fixtures. That’s not an upsell list — it’s the base of what we call a deep clean. We laid out the full room-by-room version in what’s included in a deep clean, because I’d rather you know exactly what you’re paying for than take our word for “it’s thorough.”

The one thing that isn’t included is the inside of cabinets and drawers, simply because that means emptying them first, and not every house wants that done before hosting. If you do want it, say so when you call and we’ll add it in.

Pricing is estimated by home size — a studio starts around $225, a three-bedroom house around $405, before GST — and the actual bill is the time the clean takes, same as everything else we do. If your place is in decent shape going in, it can come in under that. If it’s had a rough year, it’ll run over, and we’ll tell you why rather than just hand you a bigger invoice. The full table and worked examples are in how much a deep clean costs in Winnipeg.

One honest warning about timing

Book this at least a few days before the event, not the day before. A deep clean on a lived-in house takes longer than people expect — it’s a full house with furniture to work around, not an empty unit — and if something takes longer than planned because the oven turned out worse than described, you want a cushion before the doorbell rings, not zero room to breathe.

If you’re not sure whether you want a deep clean or something smaller, our piece on move-out cleaning vs. deep cleaning walks through the difference — though if you’re hosting rather than moving, a deep clean is almost always the right call, since the house stays lived-in through the holidays. Moving instead of hosting? The move-out pricing calculator is the one you want.

Do it yourself if the timing’s tighter than the budget

If money’s the issue and not time, you can get most of the way there yourself: pull the fridge out and vacuum behind it, run the self-clean on the oven a few days ahead so the smell has time to clear, and hit the grout with a stiff brush and some patience. It won’t be as fast or as even as a crew doing it, but it’ll get the house most of the way to where you want it for company. I’d rather tell you that than have you spend money you need somewhere else.

Booking across the city

We’re doing holiday deep cleans across Winnipeg this season, from Transcona bungalows to condos in Fort Richmond, and everywhere between. Get in touch with your home size and the date you’re hosting, and we’ll tell you straight whether that week is still open — and if it isn’t, which one is.
